After-school Program Curriculum
In my K-12 after-school programs, I teach foundation skills while encouraging creativity and self-expression. I create a structured curriculum based on National Core Arts Standards and the NC Essential Standards for Visual Art. Lessons are tiered and build upon each other each from week to week. Students do not only create art but also learn art concepts, vocabulary, how art connects with other subjects, and historical context specific to that course. Students create their own artwork within the scope of lesson that includes exposure to a variety of media, incorporating the elements of art and principles of design, and introducing artists and art history. Each course session concludes with an art exhibit, teaching students to present and reflect on their work by discussing what they have created with their families and peers.
